Many clients, colleagues, family, and friends affectionately call Dr. MaMa Akosua Ali-Sabree, MaMa Akosua, MaMa General, and or Na Kwateokor Gua I. She is the founder of Amadi Wellness Connection, CEO of the Kuumba Family Institute, Inc. and the Program Director of the Annual International Locks Conference: Natural Hair, Wholistic Health and Beauty Expo.
MaMa Akosua inspires, educates, and motivates young people, women, and families. Her passionate call for liberation, organization, and to study more, talk less, and take strategic action can be heard and felt through her books, insightful workshops, and interactive presentations. Whether it is through her speaking, training, individual or group coaching sessions or in her books she instills the confidence in her audiences /participants to be unapologetically fearless, focused and determined on their life path.
Dr. Ali-Sabree has been a wholistic health and wellness educator/ spiritual counsellor since 1968. Being actively involved in NBAWAD, NBUF, RAM, NOI, NBIPP, and the National Black Sisterhood all provided a strong foundation for her to gain a sense of purpose early in life. She revels in her capacities as sister, daughter, auntie, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, Godmother, CEO, and guide. The many titles she is also known by Neuro-Linguistic Psychotherapist, intuitive writer, author, publisher, professional registered nurse, certified consulting hypnotist, life consciousness and imagination counsellor, stress management trainer, meditation facilitator, certified network marketing trainer, organizational strategist, urban generalist.
Weekly, MaMa Akosua produced and co-hosted the “Health is A Family Affair” talk show on the Harambee Radio and TV network for thirteen years. Her prior broadcast radio experience in the 1980s included working with Dr. Mattie L. Humphrey on WDAS. MaMa Akosua recently returned to radio to co-host a regular segment (Conscious Conversations) on New Worldview on WURD radio 900AM/96.1 FM. In November 2014, she was enstooled as Naa Kwateokor Gua I of the Ga people of Ghana. In 2016 she was appointed as the Surgeon General of the UNIA-ACL. MaMa Akosua is the recipient of many awards, most recently in 2019 she was the recipient of the Madame C. J. Walker Award for Excellence. MaMa Akosua is also part of the leadership team for the I Buy Black initiative and member of The Association of Black Psychologists. Dr. Ali-Sabree is a Neuro-Linguistic Psychotherapist with a master’s degree in human services/counselling from Lincoln University, an ordained minister from Universal Light Church, attended Fields Graduate University, and received an Aboriginal Bio-Cosmic Naturopath Honorary Doctorate from Aboriginal University. In addition to editing newsletters, designing brochures and flyers for local businesses and being a regular columnist for the Black STAR magazine, she is the co-founder of Ujima Press Real Communication www.UjimaPressRC.com and has helped many brothers and sisters fine-tune and publish their written work.
